Basics

• Snowball, Snowball Edge & Snow mobile are designed to move large amount of data in or out of AWS
• These are physical devices ranging in size from a suitcase to a truck

Snowball

• This is a device ordered from AWS, shipped and received
• Data is encrypted using KMS
• Devices can be either 50TB or 80TB
• The network connecivity can be 1GBps or 10GBps
• IF data in range of 10TB to 10PB then using multiple snowball devices it can b achieved
• Multiple devices can be ordered and delivered to multiple business premises
• It consists of storage only and no compute

Snowball Edge

• Consists of Storage & Compute
• Also has larger storage capcity as well as faster networking 10GBps, 10/25 or 45/50/100 GBps
• Snowball can be storage optimized but with EC2 for compute. By default it comes with 80TB,24 vCPU, 3 GB Ram, 1 TB SSD
• Compute optimized version consists of 100 TB + 7.68GB NVME, 52 vCPU, 208 GB Ram
• Compute wit GPU - Same as compute optimized with addition of GPU

Snowmobile

• Portable Data center on Truck
• Needs to be specially ordered
• Idea for 10+ PB of Data
• It can store upto 100PB of data per snowmobile
